ADAMVS WINERY - Angwin, California
Senior Architect for Melander Architects, Inc.
After purchasing a small 67 acre vineyard on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley, the Owners hired Melander Architects to remodel an existing Production Facility and design a new iconic tasting room for small groups by-appointment-only. The tasting site is comprised of two separate buildings-- an open and airy Tasting Room and an opaque Wine Library housing support spaces, arranged across an outdoor courtyard with views up and down the vineyard. The Tasting Room consists of three layers: an open-plan column-free glass pavilion, a perimeter of free-standing sculptural log walls, and a dematerialized "ghost structure" canopy above based on a tin shed demolished from the site. The Wine Library is a custom site-cast concrete building, imprinted with the boards of old shed facades from the winery property.
