WOOD BOX - Emeryville, California

This loft remodel in the historic 1920s Besler Building in Emeryville was designed and built in three phases.  The scope of work included a Douglas fir-clad box containing a bedroom inside, bookcases outside, a new coat closet and stair to a dressing room above with custom concealed light fixtures.   The original concrete floors were painted blue, the kitchen was tiled with second-run Heath Ceramics tiles, and new custom roller shades were installed over the original steel windows.  The Wood Box was published in a five page spread in the November 2011 issue of Dwell Magazine, published again in 2013 in a Swiss home interior book, and has been mentioned, tagged and pinned on hundreds of other websites.
