This loft remodel of a former 1920s steam automobile factory penthouse was designed and built over three phases. A new Douglas fir-clad box houses a bedroom inside, bookcases, a coat closet and stair to a dressing room above with built-in custom light fixtures. The original concrete floors were painted blue, the kitchen was tiled with second-run Heath Ceramics tiles, and custom roller shades were installed over the original steel windows. The Wood Box was published in a five page spread in the November 2011 issue of Dwell Magazine, published again in 2013 in a Swiss home interior book, and has been mentioned, tagged and pinned on hundreds of other websites.
